Prizes
The Nicholson Center is pleased to present several prizes to honor the outstanding work of undergraduate and graduate students in the broad area of British Studies. For the purposes of our prizes, British Studies includes the study of Britain’s colonies and the legacies of colonization.
The Nicholson BA Thesis Prize
A $250 prize awarded to the best senior BA thesis based on the use of primary materials in the area of British Studies, in any concentration or discipline. To be considered for the prize, students must be nominated by their thesis advisor. Details of the 2023 competition will be announced in the spring.
The Nicholson-MAPH Thesis Prize
A prize awarded to the best MAPH thesis with an emphasis on British Studies. To be considered for the prize, students are nominated by their preceptor and/or faculty adviser.
Nicholson-MAPSS Scholarships
Scholarships awarded in the autumn quarter to the most promising students working on British Studies in the MAPSS program. Candidates are nominated by MAPSS faculty and preceptors, and a panel nominated by the Nicholson Faculty Advisory Board. Recipients are encouraged to join the Nicholson list-serv and to participate in Nicholson events.
